The C.O.P Charitable Society fully funded and built the Penticton Safety Village in 1984. It was modelled after a village in Fort Wayne Indiana, and was envisioned to be a facility that was designed to teach children the rules of the road and traffic safety.  Original contributors were Beaver Lumber, Interior Forklift, McLaughlin Electric, Wilson Builders, Interior Roofing, L and H Trucking, Penticton Rental Center, Jerry's Bobcat, OK Builders, Dunham Landscaping, COR's Painting and Decorating, Peter Bros. Paving, Kerr Enterprises, and Meiklejohn Architects.

Throughout the years, the Penticton Safety Village has grown and many changes have occurred. The Firehouse was built and the fire safety teaching was added to the school program.

In 2009, the community came together for the United Way Day of Caring. Volunteers and many Penticton businesses came together to replace asphalt, re-paint buildings, replace windows, re-lay bricks, and removed the dated playground which was located in the grassy area.

Since then, building and road way sponsors have contributed to regular maintenance of the Village. 2024 is our 40th birthday, and we look forward to celebrate with new programs, events, and additions to the Village.
